We at Mibex recently concluded our annual hackathon, this time focusing on improving developer workflows and enhancing collaboration. Our team came together over three days in June to create new applications and improve our existing ones. The results were nothing short of impressive. 🚀
The Hackathon
In our creative Mibex Office space, we worked on solutions aimed at improving developer experience. In addition to the intense coding sessions , we also made time for team bonding activities like assembling LEGO sets, playing social games, hiking to Uetliberg, and enjoying a barbecue and cooked dinner. 🌄🥘
By the end of the event, we had developed four new apps and improved the marketing content for our existing apps. Here are the highlights of the exciting projects we worked on:
App #1: Blazing Fast Jira , AKA The Winner APP
Problem
Finding information in Jira can be cumbersome, with searches often returning too much irrelevant data or requiring carefully crafted JQL queries.
Outcome
Blazing Fast Jira synchronizes data from Jira to deliver rapid search results, allowing developers to navigate Jira as efficiently as they do their IDE.
Future Vision
Expand beyond Jira to include Bitbucket repositories and pull requests, focusing on speed and efficiency. ⚡
App #2: Git Reactions for Bitbucket (Cloud)
Problem
Current feedback methods during Pull Request (PR) reviews are limited and easily overlooked.
Outcome
Git Reactions for Bitbucket allows PR reviewers to add expressive reactions (images or gifs) to PRs, enhancing the feedback experience.
Future Vision
Promote a collaborative environment and improve the developer experience with easy onboarding and custom reactions. 🎉👏
App #3: Custom CRM Dashboard
Problem
Our current CRM lacks advanced visualizations.
Outcome
Our Custom CRM Dashboard offers enhanced visualizations and aggregations for app metrics, providing a flexible and customizable solution.
Future Vision
Extend beyond current CRM to meet various business needs with easy custom metrics and graphs. 📊
App #4: Quick Navigation for Bitbucket
Problem
Switching to different Bitbucket pages like the PR list or the “Manage apps” page takes mouse effort and a lot of time.
What did we do?
We implemented a quick access feature that can be triggered by Ctrl+k and shows all Bitbucket pages in a popup. You can fuzzy find in this list and go to a page with one keypress. It is also context-dependent, meaning that you will see repository-based pages first when you are in a repository context (e.g. within a PR).
Future Vision
Add this feature to the Blazing Fast app, because its concept is more general.
Do Not Underestimate the Power of Bonding
Beyond our technical achievements, the hackathon was a fantastic opportunity for team bonding. Games, cooking, and laughter were just some of the activities that strengthened our teamwork and camaraderie. 🏞️🍔
